WSOP 2008 Main Event, Day 2A: Hachem, Vos and Warne Going Strong

Today marked the return of the players that survived Day 1. Day 2A proved to be a fruitful one for the big name Aussies in a day that was one of fast eliminations. Tony Hachem, brother of PokerStars pro Joe Hachem, finished the day on 145,100 chips, which was the peak of his day’s chip stack. The biggest hand that he was involved in was when he called a re-raise preflop. On the flop of 10 10 5 the initial re-raiser bet 20k, Hachem pushed his stack and the other player folded. Hachem showed QQ and was left wondering if he could have got more from his opponent if he smooth called.

Pacific Poker team captain and famous Australian cricket star Shane Warne survived the second day of play amongst all the knock outs. Warne started the day with 32k, worked his way up to 100k before being crippled and back down to his original starting stack. This didn’t seem to bother him much though as he finished with a flurry and will be back for Day 3 action with 100,100 chips.

Mark Vos, who currently resides in Brisbane, Australia, played his usual solid game to finish with a stack of 155,100 chips. He worked his way up to 186,000 at one point before spilling chips in a big pot. He finished strongly and will be back for all the excitement and entertainment of Day 3.

Billy ‘The Croc” Argyros didn’t fare as well as the other big name Aussies. For the second time in this year’s WSOP he was eliminated after getting all in on the flop with top set. He called a big raise pre-flop and checked blindly to a flop that came out J 9 5. He ended up getting all in on that flop against pocket aces. He was desperately unlucky though, as he opponent turned an ace and knocked him out. Let’s hope the rest of the Aussies don’t run into these kind of beats for the rest of the 2008 WSOP.

As play goes into Day 2B there are plenty of more Aussies in action and as usual we will keep you up to date with the results. Goodluck to the Australian poker players competing in Day 2B.
