WSOP 2008 Main Event, Day 1D: Prize Pool Revealed

The final day of the first round of action is now over and it is official, we have the 2nd largest field in history. In total there were 6844 entries to the $10 000 Main Event with 666 players getting paid. First place will receive a tidy sum of $9 119 517 USD to go home with. The total prize pool of the 2008 WSOP Main Event is a massive 68.4 million.

Day 1D started with a whopping 2461 players and at the close of play 1362 survived and they will be back to compete in Day 2. Day 1D provided some of the big names of poker such as Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, Howard Lederer and the Full Tilt pro Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson. Unfortunately he was eliminated during the day but Phil Hellmuth is still going strong with a 78k chip stack. One of the biggest names eliminated on the day was Phil Ivey who was crippled when his flopped flush got rivered to a full house. He was eliminated a short time after.

The player that accumulated the most chips by the end of the day was Steve Austin who has 149,000, significantly less than the Day 1C leader who has 242,000.
