The much anticipated WSOP 2008 Main Event is now underway and the excitement has begun. The first day of play saw 1297 players hit the felt of the $10,000 No-Limit Hold ‘em event. The first day saw the greats of poker like Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson play. Other big names in action on the first day were; Full Tilt’s David Benyamine, 50k HORSE winner Scotty Nguyen, Barry Greenstein and online pro Freddy Deeb. Famous actor Ray Romano was also one of the players to hit the tables on Day 1a.
It only took twenty minutes for the first elimination which saw aces get cracked on the river by jacks. The was no such bad luck for Australian poker player Mark ‘Pokerbok’ Vos. The man that resides in Brisbane, Australia finished the first day of playing in a commanding position. At the conclusion of play Vos has a chip stack of 113 200. That puts him as the 15th largest stack from Day 1a.
The first day eliminated over half of the initial entrants with 636 remaining. Mark Garner was the best of the players at the close of play with a solid 194,900 chips to play with. The players will have to wait until Tuesday to get their chance to hit the tables again on Day 2.
