WSOP 2008: Event #2, $1,500 NLHE – Grant Hinkle Wins

In an event that will go down in history as the longest WSOP side event, Grant Hinkle was awarded the bracelet for winning. He won $831 622 for winning the event, which was well deserved for beating the rest of the field in such a long event.

Chris “Jesus” Ferguson the Full Tilt pro finished in 3rd place. On a final day that has 18 players still left, Ferguson, Hinkle and James Akenhead were the last 3 players remaining. Ferguson was knocked out by Akenhead when he was dominated with K-10 vs Akenhead’s A-10 all in pre flop. Akenhead’s hand held up and he was heads up with Hinkle to win the tourney. Ferguson collected $388 287 for finishing in 3rd place.

The heads up batlle went for over two hours before a sensational last hand gave victory to Hinkle. Hinkle was caught bluffing as he pushed all in with 10-4, dominated by Akenhead’s AK. The flop came 10 4 10 and the turn was another 10 just to rub salt into the wound. Hinkle’s quad 10’s sealed his victory and was a remarkable end to the tournament.

Congratulations to Grant Hinkle the eventual winner. He fought for a long amount of time to get his name into the record books. Stay tuned for further results and news from the 2008 WSOP.
