Australia’s very own poker player Tony G has been pipped to the post in PartyPoker Premier League III. Going into the star studded final table Tony found himself on the shorter side of the chips. That didn’t do him any harm though as he doubled up against Tom ‘Durrr’ Dwan. This put Dwan into the short stack position but he managed to fight to live longer than two of his other opponents.
First to exit the PartyPoker Premier League was the 2008 WSOP Main Event Champion Peter Eastgate. He went over the top of the early raise of JC Tran but happened to run into pocket aces. He was shortly followed out the exit door by Roland De Wolfe as he was outdrawn by Dwan with KK vs AQ. Tony G then proceeded to knock out Dwan with top pair and a higher kicker and then Juha Helppi with AQ vs A10.
By the time the final table reached heads up action Tony G held the lead and did so for quite a while. The final hand of the tournament came shortly after Tran had taken the lead on a smaller pot. Tran had top pair with a gutshot straight draw in the final hand while Tony G had an open ended straight draw and top pair. Tony G couldn’t catch up and JC Tran was the winner and took home a nice $300,000 USD payday while Australian poker player Tony G took $150,000 USD as a consolation prize. Not a bad payout for being a runner up.
