Tony G was born on Decemeber 17, 1973 as “Antanas Guoga” and is one of the more noticeable characters at the poker table to say the least. He is originally from Lithuania but now calls Australia home.
Tony G is very well respected amongst his peers at the poker table and has had several quality results. He has many nicknames including “the mouth from down under” and “the Australian airbag”, which directly refers to his reputation at the poker table. In a WPT event in 2003 Howard Lederer refused to shake his hand because of his aggressive comments at the table. This highlights how Tony G talks and tries to force his opponents into making incorrect decisions. If you want to play with Tony G he now has his own poker site. You can even play against him without having to listen to him.
Many people that know him well, including tournament directors, players and dealers all say that away from the poker table he is a very likeable character and easy to get along with. Many people may not know this side of Tony G or the fact that he is a very charitable person. In 2007 after winning US$205,000 at a tournament in Moscow, he left the prize money with officials to give to Russian Orphanages. There is also controversy wherever Tony G appears, but the results speak for themselves and his strategy seems to be paying off.
Guoga is also the principal owner of a network of high traffic poker information sites, including Poker News, Poker Affiliate World and Poker Works.
