For the month of February 2009 we have seen one of the most historic events take place in online poker. PokerStars has been at the centre of attention as they dealt their way towards the 25 billionth hand to be played. As this landmark hand drew near the world’s best online poker room was inundated with players all vying to win the cash and prizes on offer. The famous hand was dealt on Monday 16th feb 2009 and will go down as a memorable day to say the least.

Two players split the 100k on offer because the hand was on an Omaha Hi/Lo table. They both received event packages that included entry to the WCOOP and WSOP Main Events. The other three people at the table shared 100k as a consolation.

Even though Full Tilt Poker ran their FTOPS event this month, PokerStars has laregely overshadowed their main rival. PokerStars is going from strength to strength and it looks as if noone can stop them. The team at Poker Shark has also just recognised that their average amount of cash players has soared from about 16k to over 29k in the past six months. Congratulations to PokerStars for yet another remarkable achievement.

The month of June is now over and we have seen a frenzy of satellites to the 2008 WSOP Main Event. PokerStars wins the Poker Room of the Month award after their exceptional effort at providing a huge amount of seats to the Main Event. In fact, PokerStars sent more people to the Main Event than every other online poker room combined!

In a month that included the super satellite with 200 entries guaranteed to the Main Event, PokerStars sent over 2000 players to the Main Event through their satellites. The sheer amount of players that PokerStars sends to the WSOP outlines their reputation as the best online poker room. This was PokerStars’ best year in terms of players sent to the WSOP as they continue to improve and expand their poker room.

Aside from their WSOP satellites, PokerStars has continued to provide their players with plenty of opportunities to win big with massive prize pools in their weekly tournaments. The Sunday Warm-up, Million and Second-Chance continue to be very popular amongst players along with the hefty guaranteed prize pools they offer each week.

The month of May has seen Full Tilt Poker run FTOPS for the 8th time. FTOPS VIII comprised of 24 events that were completed in a period of 11 days. Run from the 7th-18th May 2008, this FTOPS series saw over 10 million dollars given away in guaranteed prizes. The Main Event paid out a whopping 2.75 Million and the winner took home over 410k.

For those of you that don’t know, FTOPS is the Full Tilt Online Poker Series. It is a series of tournaments where huge payouts are guaranteed and there is a great opportunity to make a lot of cash. PokerStars has a similar program called WCOOP (World Championship Of Online Poker).

FTOPS VIII consisted of Hold ‘em, Omaha, Stud, Razz and HORSE events. The formats were either standard, Knockout, 6-max or shootouts. Full Tilt has done a great job catering to the needs of players from all avenues of Poker. Many satellites ran to gain entry to these events, and the players flooded to the tables to compete.

Overall, the series provided a great change to the monotony of everyday poker and Full Tilt should be applauded for providing a great event to its players.
