888 Celebrity Poker Tournament in Melbourne a Huge Success

On Thursday, June 19 at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, 888.com held a Celebrity Bounty poker tournament. Shane Warne who has recently signed up with the team at 888 hosted the event. The event boasted a large array of Australian icons, with bounties placed on their head from knocking them out. The buy-in was $550 and the bounty for knocking out a celebrity was a $300 pack from 888, including a poker set and other merchandise.

More importantly however, the players and celebrities were there to win one of three $17,000 packages to attend the 2008 WSOP Main Event with Shane Warne. Out of the 170 entrants, Jeff Fenech knocked them all out to win a seat with his good friend Warney. Fenech must have enjoyed the night as he went on to his fight two nights later wearing the 888 logo on his shorts. He defeated his arch rival Azumah Nelson to cap off a successful few days. The two other package winners of the poker night were Rosa Crea and Arif Mehmet.

The celebrities that turned up on the evening included AFL stars Nathan Buckley and Gary Ablett junior. Underbelly star Kevin Harrington and the Today Show’s Cameron Williams. Les Hill, Gyton Grantley, Daniel MacPherson, Alex Fevola, Tim Campbell, Livinia Nixon, Kelly Landry, Klara Lisy and Antony Callea were also in attendance.

The event started at 6pm and went untill the early hours on Friday morning. At 3:30am the event was over and it was the end of a great night for all. Shane Warne himself only managed to finish in the middle stages of the field but enjoyed the night all the same.

888.com/Pacific Poker really put on a quality event for everyone involved on the night. This highlights their continued intent on focusing on promoting poker in Australia. The three winners of the night will be in action at the Main Event in the next couple of days representing the 888 brand. They will be there with Shane Warne, pokershark.com.au will be following their progress closely.

Goodluck to the 888 team at the event and congratulations on providing such an entertaining night.
