Australian Online Poker

Australian online poker has been taking off ever since Joe Hachem won the 2005 WSOP Main Event. In more recent times we have witnessed online poker rooms begin to take notice of poker players in Australia.

Specifically you can now see PokerStars advertising during the Rugby League on Sunday Afternoons. It seems the Government has loosened up the advertising laws here and online gambling sites are making the most of it. PokerStars is the world's largest online poker site and a great option for Aussies. One of the main reasons for this is because they now sponsor the Australia and New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT). This tour has multiple events and players can qualify for the ANZPT by playing on PokerStars.

Aussie Millions

The Aussie Millions is the 6th largest poker tournament in the world and the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. 2009 was the first year that an Australian won the Main Event which has brought even more attention to the poker scene in Australia. Stewart Scott is the man that has given us some more of the respect we richly deserve within the poker realm.

Qualifying for the Aussie Millions

To qualify for the Aussie Millions isn't as easy as it sounds. I have personally talked to a lot of the different poker sites to see what they can offer Australians trying to qualify for the Main Event. After I did all of my research I came to the conclusion that PokerStars and Full Tilt are by far the best places to try your luck at. As with most satellites to major events; PokerStars has the most and sends the largest amount of players. Full Tilt is also another solid option because the competition there is a little softer.

Gambling Laws in Australia

You might have recently witnessed some of the most bizarre news we have seen in recent times in relation to online gambling laws in Australia. The Australian and Communications Media Authority made a blacklist in an attempt to ban websites of an illegal nature. Somehow gambling sites were listed and there was a major uproar.

Is it Legal to Play Poker Online?

Yes of course it is. The supposed blacklist was only a trial and it will not go ahead. Australian gambling has never been stronger and is growing in numbers every day. The only restrcitions that are currently in place are for the operators themsevles. So if you are an Aussie gambler you have nothing to worry about.
